Wisconsin Gov. Walker joins War on Women.

ThinkProgress: Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) has thrown his support behind an anti-abortion measure that’s currently moving through the state legislature, saying he will sign the bill into law if it makes it to his desk. SB 206 would require women to undergo an ultrasound before getting an abortion — which would mandate an invasive transvaginal probe for some of the women who seek early abortions in their first trimester — and force one of the state’s last abortion clinics to close its doors.

“I don’t have any problem with ultrasound,” Walker told reporters on Tuesday in Milwaukee. “I think most people think ultrasounds are just fine.”

Forced ultrasound bills mandate a medically unnecessary procedure that would otherwise be left up to the discretion of a woman and her doctor. Medical experts, including the largest national group representing thousands of OB-GYNs across the country, are opposed to this type of legislation because they say it interferes with their work and compromises their relationships with patients. “All of a sudden, the Senate is full of doctors,” Wisconsin Sen. Tim Cullen (D) said in reference to SB 206′s advancement.

You know, I would very much like Scooter to explain to me exactly what it is that women supposedly don’t know about their pregnancies. What new information would an ultrasound give them? What bit of ignorance about their own bodies is this supposed to clear up? Be specific please: just how incredibly stupid do you anti-choicers believe that women are?

The truth is that they’re simply a roadblock to getting an abortion; just one more hoop to jump through, in the hopes that some women will think it’s not worth the effort. In short, the explanation for why this unnecessary procedure should be required are lies. As always, the most fanatically religious among us are the biggest liars and the least trustworthy Americans.

Of course, this is just Walker’s way of shoring up his conservative bona fides before a possible presidential run. He’s hoping that attacking women will excite the base enough to look past his inexcusably gross economic incompetence. But if we’ve learned one thing in recent years, it’s that this War on Women stuff may get you through the GOP primaries, but that this level of extremism will keep you out of the White House.

And thank goodness for that. Scott Walker is unfit to lead a sing-along, let alone a nation.

Conservatives think that if a woman is forced into an ultrasound, she will see that life is happening, and the gates of heaven will open up and the angels will start singing the hallelujah chorus because she saw her babies heart beat and changed her mind.

That’s bullshit though, and the church needs to keep their transvaginal ultrasound machines out of my fucking body.

I AM SORRY BUT THIS IS WHY I AM EMBARRASSED TO BE AN AMERICAN. IF A HIJAB THAT DORNS THE AMERICAN FLAG PATTERN IS NOT ACCEPTABLE BUT SKIMPY ASS BIKINIS OR WEARING THE FUCKING ACTUAL FLAG IS ACCEPTABLE, JUST BECAUSE THE PERSON IS WHITE, I WANT TO FUCKING THROW UP.

(I don’t have a thing against Audrey Kitching, she was just merely and example).

But this fucking disgusts me right here. It makes me want to say, fuck this country and its racism and double standards.

Okay sooooo… I’m embarrassed.

Things like this tick me off to no end. Old Navy is line with flag swimsuits, swim trunks, onesies, et cetera. But no one cares. They also sell flag scarves and have no problem with those either. But once someone makes a hijab, it’s a big issue. Ridiculous.

Middle America/ignorant Americans are awful, and all I can do as an American is speak out against it and apologize for the sheer madness these people are spouting out.

My country is one i love for its my birthplace, but it’s one I also am ashamed and disgusted off 100% of the time

Basketball player fined $75K for homophobic, vulgar language

gaywrites:

Roy Hibbert, center for the NBA’s Indiana Pacers, was fined $75,000 for making homophobic comments during a press conference this weekend.

Hibbert used the phrase “no homo” when asked about his defense of LeBron James and also referred to the media as “motherf*ckers.” He apologized Sunday and reached out specifically to Jason Collins on Twitter, though it’s unclear if they were in touch.

In a statement from the Pacers, Hibbert expressed “deep regret over my choice of words last night. I am apologizing for insensitive remarks made during the postgame press conference after our victory over Miami Saturday night. They were disrespectful and offensive and not a reflection of my personal views. I used a slang term that is not appropriate in any setting, private or public, and the language I used definitely has no place in a public forum, especially over live television. I apologize to those who I have offended, to our fans and to the Pacers’ organization.”

Oof. A couple steps forward, a couple steps back.

Rape Culture? What is this “Rape Culture” you speak of?

Seriously though, this is terrifying. God forbid I wear a skirt outside — I’m just ASKING   to be raped if I do that.

The 58% statistic actually terrifies me more than any other. Suddenly change the word and you don’t care?

No one will ever be able to convince me that words hold no power.

and if they actually do it, you are legally responsible and, in some states, you can also be charged with manslaughter

BAD GIRLS DO IT WELL

The Gulabi gang is a group of women vigilantes active across North India. It is named after the pink saris worn by its members. The group was founded as a response to widespread domestic abuse and other violence against women. Gulabis visit abusive husbands and beat them with bamboo sticks. In 2008, they stormed an electricity office and forced officials to restore the power they had cut to extract bribes. The Gulabis have also stopped child marriages and protested dowry and female illiteracy.

aren’t these the women who, after hearing screams, broke into a house and found a man raping a woman, then dragged him out onto the street wherein the whole block full of people beat him to death? I think there were photos of it as well?

I can’t seem to find that particular article but there have been other instances lately of mobs of angry Indians, not just women, taking justice into their own hands, while their corrupt police force doesn’t. I mean, vigilante justice isn’t really something to condone, but… yknow, if there isn’t anybody to do the job, someone will rise…
