and if they actually do it, you are legally responsible and, in some states, you can also be charged with manslaughter

BAD GIRLS DO IT WELL

The Gulabi gang is a group of women vigilantes active across North India. It is named after the pink saris worn by its members. The group was founded as a response to widespread domestic abuse and other violence against women. Gulabis visit abusive husbands and beat them with bamboo sticks. In 2008, they stormed an electricity office and forced officials to restore the power they had cut to extract bribes. The Gulabis have also stopped child marriages and protested dowry and female illiteracy.

aren’t these the women who, after hearing screams, broke into a house and found a man raping a woman, then dragged him out onto the street wherein the whole block full of people beat him to death? I think there were photos of it as well?

I can’t seem to find that particular article but there have been other instances lately of mobs of angry Indians, not just women, taking justice into their own hands, while their corrupt police force doesn’t. I mean, vigilante justice isn’t really something to condone, but… yknow, if there isn’t anybody to do the job, someone will rise…

Happy Christmas Eve, Christmas-celebrating friends!

Whether or not Christmas is your thing, chances are you’re spending a little time off work or school to be with your family. Whether you’re LGBTQ or straight, out or not, spending so much time around people can be a little taxing, especially if you are not used to it. From a recent Washington Blade story on LGBT people and depression during the holidays:

“The holiday season has a lot of associations with family, togetherness and unfortunately many people in the LGBT community have experienced some family loss, whether it was the loss of relationships, being ostracized or not accepted,” Dr. Gregory Jones of District Psychotherapy Associates in D.C. told the Blade. More than 70 percent of his patients are LGBT. “So often times during the holiday season, people feel reminded of this.”

With all this in mind, here are a few resources on managing the holidays, especially if your family isn’t incredibly LGBTQ-friendly:

PFLAG’s Tips for a Happy Holiday for LGBT People: If you’re planning on coming out to your family and friends this season, or just dealing with a family that isn’t accepting of your sexual orientation or gender identity, PFLAG has some tips on making the holidays easier. Worth noting: if your family doesn’t take the news well, you can have a happy holiday gathering with other people you love who do accept you for who you are. You have the right to be yourself, any time of year.

The Introvert’s Corner Holiday Survival Guide: This is a collection of articles about dealing with holiday rituals that can be difficult or stressful for introverted people, like small talk at holiday parties. It’s not LGBT-specific, but does give some solid information that can help make you more comfortable this season.

GayChurch.org: If you’re looking to celebrate Christmas in a church but you’re not comfortable with your local congregation, for LGBT or other reasons, this list will find you an LGBT-affirming church nearby. Note: this particular link is for churches in the U.S., but you can use the same site to find international churches.

Secular Ways to Celebrate the Christmas Holidays: If you’d like to spend time with loved ones while you have time off school but religion’s not your thing, here’s a list of ways to enjoy this time without going overboard on the Jesus theme.

Stress, Depression and the Holidays: Tips for Coping: If you’re prone to depression this time of year, this list of tips from the Mayo Clinic can help to prevent it. Examples: making time for yourself, maintaining healthy eating and sleeping habits, and accepting that the holidays may not be perfect.
